Crest Clamshell ™ Handfed and Automatic Die Cutter Options Available The “No More Make-Ready Clamshell”
The
Crest Clamshell represents over 30 years of clamshell engineering, all
with the singular focus of eliminating your make ready and providing
you with a solid return on your investment.
By
reducing setup times, your company will run more jobs with less waste,
which is one way that our customers cost justify replacing an old
clamshell or a so-called value-oriented press. Over a short period of
time low-grade metals on “value-oriented” clamshells wear, causing
operators to spend hours setting up and readjusting the make ready.
This added make ready not only increases the cost of running a job, but
it also results in more wasted sheets because operators need more
set-up sheets, which is especially costly with today’s pay-per-click
digital printers.
Since we all want to avoid make ready, let’s
define the term to ensure we eliminate all of the potential problems.
Clamshell make ready is determined by three important factors
1. the quality of the press 2. the right die for the job 3. the flatness of the platen
From
a clamshell engineering perspective, you want the strongest press
available, not necessarily because you need the sheer tonnage to cut
the material, but more importantly, because the stronger the press, the
less deflection. The Crest Clamshell achieves its “No Make Ready”
label, in part, because it’s designed as a high-tonnage Clamshell that
will handle some of the industry’s toughest substrates, such as
polycarbonates, polyesters and polystyrenes while eliminating
deflection. To provide you with added strength, the Crest Clamshell
includes the following as standard features:
• Welded steel frame as opposed to a cast frame of recycled metals • Strong main gears designed to stop on impression without locking up the press • Interlocking steel frame designed to handle heavy loads
Although
the many advanced features may sound expensive, the Crest Clamshell
actually provides the lowest cost of ownership. The Crest Clamshell
lowers operating costs by eliminating wasted time and material,
minimizes downtime and is built to last 25-30 years, as opposed to the
5-7 years standard for “value-oriented” presses.
The
manufacturers of this press not only provided a flat platen to decrease
operators’ make ready, but they also included features to ensure that
any operator could run the press, regardless of his or her skill set.
• Precision micrometer adjustment: simply spin a dial to fine tune your press to .0001 of an inch • Impression Throw Off: If an operator misplaces a sheet, he or she can easily disengage the press before it ruins that sheet
If
you’re still not convinced that the Crest Clamshell will simplify your
die cutting or kiss cutting, don’t take our word for it, learn what our
Crest customers are saying.
