Lower cost doesn’t necessarily equal better value, even if at
first glance, the products look the same. For example, a generic razor blade
may at first appear similar to more expensive brand-name razor. Yet, while they
appear the same, I can’t get the same close shave from the knock-off brand
razor. (In most cases, I end up with a bloody jaw and tissues stuck to my
face.)
In the same way, not all clamshells cut the same. While it’s
true they often look similar and cycle at the same rate, they don’t achieve the
same type of cut. Similar to my razor example, some offer clean cuts every
time, while others can only nick the surface. Also, some presses offer the strength
to cut two to three up based on the rated tonnage, while others struggle to cut
one item. When you consider buying a new press, remember to compare not just
the outer surface, but all of the mechanical components that add strength and
reduce make ready times.
In addition to cutting power, you should also consider all
of the added services that a full service company that offers sales, service
and training can provide. For example, at some point you may need to service
your press. We support and stock parts for all products sold here in the USA, in
our Franklin, MA facility and in our Sierra Vista, Arizona facility. MPN also provides
on-site training, both classroom and on-press instruction, aimed at solving your
production and application challenges, whether it is die design, make-ready or
clamshell basics.
We created My Press Needs (MPN) and My Service Needs (MSN) to
provide full service to you. MPN is staffed with industry veterans with more
than 100 years of combined experience. MSN is run by my partner, Dave Mussi – a
25 year Thomson veteran and supported by Bob Weidhaas Sr, another veteran in
your industry. Additionally, our indirect support consists of people with years
of experience, including a seasoned CFO and a former United States diplomat, to
ensure you prompt professional service.
When I invest in a product, regardless of whether it’s a
razor blade or a capital investment, I want to know I get value from my
purchase. This means I need to examine more than just the packaging and price
tag. The next time you purchase a product, ask your sales representative to
tell you about after-product support and make sure that the press can, not only
cut your substrate, but cut it smoothly.
When you purchase from MPN, you get an entire organization
to support you through the sales process, the installation, production phase, onto
application support and long term care of your product by trained experts. Can the low-cost and independent dealers service
you in this way, and what is this value worth?
